Kia ora tātou e te whānau,

There are plenty of updates about student success below. I would like to start by congratulating our Kapa Haka group, Te Toka a Tirikawa, who performed at the Thursday Maatatua Kapa Haka Competition in Ōpotiki. The outstanding performance was a result of considerable time and energy from all involved. I look forward to sharing an update about their journey in future newsletters.

Our strategic planning survey will remain open until this coming Monday. Thanks to those of you who have taken time to complete this. If you wish to complete this survey please click here.

Thanks to all families who attended our Careers Evening a few weeks back. It is an excellent opportunity to connect with businesses, training organisations and curriculum areas and was supported today by Year 12’s attending the Canvas Career Expo. It is not uncommon for young people not to know which pathway best suits them or their interests, but seeing the options out there is very beneficial. Ultimately keeping a broad, qualifications-focused educational programme opens most doors.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in our annual school Talent Quest on Wednesday evening. Again, there was a very high standard, with a neat blend of dance, drama and music. Good luck to our musicians who head off to the Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival today.

As we move closer to the end of the academic year, I would like to remind all families to contact us if you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress. The sooner we can provide support, the higher chance we have of making sure students reach their educational goals.

Ngā mihi nui,

Alastair Sinton
Principal

WAKA KOTAHI UPDATE

Tēnā koe,

Te Maunga interchange, at the State Highway 2 and 29A intersection at Baypark, is scheduled to fully open to traffic next week. The interchange has been operating without its fourth ramp since its partial opening in 2022. The remaining ramp is scheduled to open in mid-August and will temporarily take all traffic from SH2/TEL/Pāpāmoa over the newly signalised interchange. This change will enable SH2 at ground level, underneath the interchange, to be completed.

The traffic switch, including opening the ramp, the commissioning of new traffic lights on Te Maunga interchange and the closure of SH2 northbound underneath the interchange, is scheduled to take place from Sunday 13 August to Wednesday 16 August and will mean changes for people travelling on SH2 from Pāpāmoa and SH29A from Maungatapu.

You’ll find further information below and online at nzta.govt.nz/temaunga

We would appreciate if you could include any of the below information in your communication channels. Please let us know if you require any further information.

Ngā mihi,
Baypark to Bayfair Project Team
