Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou,

In light of the rise in Covid-19 cases in local schools, it is important to update you on our response should a case be confirmed at Mount Maunganui College.

The college has received a toolkit from the Ministry of Education providing a framework for a number of scenarios. The guiding principles of this framework  are:

  • That schools are low risk of transmitting Covid-19.
  • There are significant benefits to schools remaining open to students.
  • To support the transition to a minimisation and protection across the country.

As we have seen, most schools are remaining open, with contact tracing and targeted advice for affected students and families.

If Mount Maunganui College does have a confirmed case we will follow advice from both the Ministries of Health and Education to give clear guidance to families and the wider school community.

THANKS

Thanks to all families who are communicating with us around the current Covid-19 outbreak in our community. I encourage you all to keep an eye on key information and follow Ministry of Health guidance. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home, get them tested if appropriate and communicate any attendance information with us here at school. With a range of scenarios emerging, if you are in doubt around whether you should send your child to school please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team at the front office.

END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES

As mentioned earlier this week our Year 10 camps are in the process of review and modification as a result of the emerging Covid-19 cases in our community. There is a likelihood that all activities, including Year 9 activities, will be affected.

Further to this, an increasing number of service and venue providers have communicated that they are unable to take unvaccinated patrons. This is creating another level of disruption to our planning and staff are working hard to find viable alternatives for groups affected by this.

STUDENT VACCINATION REGISTER

Our student vaccination register has now been open for two weeks and while we are aware large portions of our student population have been vaccinated, we have only received appropriate evidence for a relatively small number. While you are not required to, if you are willing to share this information with us please do so here.  Please note that we cannot accept the QR passport or the purple appointment card as evidence.

MODIFIED JUNIOR PRIZEGIVING

As with our recent senior celebrations, our junior prizegiving will be students and staff only. A link will be sent to the families of prizewinners prior to the event so they can join us via livestream.
