We are located in one of New Zealand's top domestic tourist locations, in the city of Tauranga (population 150,000). Tauranga is only 40 minutes by air from Auckland International Airport.

English tuition
English (ESOL) classes are provided by fully qualified expert teachers in our purpose-built facility. We prepare our international students for tertiary study with NCEA and IELTS preparation courses. 

Sports and club activities
Mount Maunganui College has a proud record of national success in surfing, waterpolo, basketball and cross-country. All major sports are available.

Performing arts and music, drama and debating also thrive at Mount Maunganui College. All international students are encouraged to become involved in sports and cultural activities.  There are also a wide range of sporting and cultural activities available in the local community.  Join in and enjoy yourself!  

Surfing
Summer is the main surfing season in New Zealand. Surfing is included as part of our Outdoor Education classes in Summer. Learn paddling techniques in our heated school pool, then try to stand up on a board in real surf at nearby Omanu Beach, just a short walk from school. Many local students enjoy surfing and most of our host families are near the beach. International students will get plenty of opportunities to surf.

Students arriving in winter (July) need to understand that only the brave and hardy surf in Winter, well-insulated with wetsuits, hoods and booties!

Mount Maunganui also has three surf lifesaving clubs. International students are welcome to train, qualify and join as volunteer lifeguards. The main season is from December to March.

International mix of nationalities
Mount Maunganui College is a modern co-educational high school with a total roll of around 1800.

We are happy to host international students from all parts of the world.

Academic pathways
For those students who stay at Mount Maunganui College for a full calendar year or longer, there is the opportunity to enter NCEA exams (New Zealand’s national qualifications). Your progress towards gaining these national qualifications will be monitored, including guidance on selecting appropriate subjects by our dedicated International Team.

Academic mentoring and support is available to all students with particular emphasis on those students wishing to gain University Entrance.
